What's a cancer foodie? Someone who has read the research into foods which fight cancer, is learning how to cook to win the fight - and is surprised to discover she's enjoying it! It's effective, too, in spite of traditional mainstream medical ignorance.
I first discovered that there are foods which fight cancer during a stay at the Penny Brohn Centre. I've always known there are foods which 'enable' cancer (barbequed meat, parsnips) but I know now that there are many more.
Cancers such as breast and prostate cancer are affected by hormones. Dairy and meat change the balance of hormones and so encourage cancer cells to proliferate. So does sugar. Did you know, for example, that healthy cells live on oxygen (so get walking!) while unhealthy cells live on sugar (so give up that daily chocolate boost).
You don't have to go hungry or eat horrible-tasting food. Choose what you like and then eat more of it. Work towards ten portions of veg and fruit (heavy on the veg, light on the fruit which contains sugars) - juicing makes it easier; nibble on a raw portion of your vegetables while you're cooking them (cos raw is better than cooked - try cauliflower, red peppers and carrots). Have fun tasting new ingredients - keep an additive-free ready meal in reserve 'just in case' your experiment is truly awful. :-) Small steps lead to bigger ones.
Wholefoods, grains, pulses - these are the mainstay of a Cancer Foodie diet. Join me on my healing journey as I explore how to be a Cancer Foodie.
